The black discoloration is probably just mold or fungus. Here is what to do - let the wood detector dry in sunlight. Even place it on a metallic baking pan or something similar to heat it up and let it dry. When it is dry, use a stiff brush and try to brush it clean. If you can't, then replace it. If you can. reuse it.
Termites don't care if it is new wood or old wood. They just don't like water logged wood or wood full of fungus. There is no time period for replacing termite detectors either. Wood is wood. Usually, older more aged wood, termites will prefer.
