Hi Kim, if carpenter ants are in the attic, then the first product I would suggest is the Advance Carpenter Ant Bait. Simply scatter it wherever the ants are active - which is usually near the eaves, fireplace, etc. Scattering it in the middle of the attic probably would be worthless.
You can also place it in gutters, etc, after making sure that the gutters are clean and free of leaves and debris.
Eaves and gutters, behind facia, under felt on the roof deck, and similar places are where carpenter ants will nest. The will also nest in window boxes (wooden box usually a the top of windows on the outside. They will also nest in between the studs of window frames, and especially in between the window headers (supports above the window behind the window box on the inside of the window.
All of these areas are near moisture, which is what they prefer. So using a bait near these areas could work and solve the problem. If the Advance Carpenter Ant Bait doesn't work, and you know where they are located, the new Termidor Foam could provide the knockout punch - Here are the links -

We have a complete section on carpenter ants here - http://www.epestsupply.com/carpenter_...
There are a lot of different methods for treating carpenter ants. The main point to remember is that you have to eliminate the nest, just not the worker ants.
Hope this helps.
