New Home? What Orkin did not tell and they have no way of knowing, is that the amount of termite bait "to be consumed" is not known, and also with a new home, how long it will take termites to show up. It could take years. Texas A&M University (Dr. Roger Gold) has said that with most new home construction, it takes 7+ years for subterranean termites to show up. That's a lot of renewals for Orkin at $300 per year.
Sentricon is sold to professional companies under a license from Dow Agrosciences. Many of these companies pay a minimal amount to Dow for the Sentricon stations and initial installation. Dow makes their money on the subsequent "annual renewal fees", which can be hundreds of dollars per year.
There are companies in Texas that will install a 20 station Sentricon system for as little as $350, but then charge you $300 per year for the annual reinspection fee, which they hope is 5-10 years. This is total overkill.
If you want a "do it yourself" Sentricon System, then the Hex Pro Termite Bait System is identical to Sentricon, with the exception of the color and the chitin inhibitor (Bait).
The Sentricon system uses "Noviflumuron" and the Hex Pro System uses the original Sentricon Chitin Inhibitor called "Hexaflumuron". In my opinion, they work the same, and their is no added benefit with either.
Here is the link to Hex Pro Termite Bait System - http://www.epestsupply.com/product/26...
It's only $249 and comes with 20 Hex Pro "Sentricon" Stations and 6 "Shatter" Termite Bait Cartridges

The Cartridges last until consumed by the termites, or until they become moldy or appear to be degraded. There is no time table on this. Control can be had in as little as 1-2 years, but this depends on how aggressive the termites are, the time of year, etc.
My advice? Do it yourself and Save!

Shatter Termite Bait Cartridges are installed when termites are found in Hex Pro Stations eating the wood monitor. It normally takes only a couple of Shatter Cartridges to have an effect on the termite colony.
Hex Pro is the original Sentricon system marketed by Dow in the late 90's and early 2000's. It is a non-licensed product meaning that Dow does not require an agreement to install or maintain it. The use of Sentricon requires a licensing agreement with Dow - now Corteva, to install and maintain.
The question really becomes - do you want to do this yourself and save the labor charges, or pay a company to it for you? The difference in the cost of the two is not much. So basically for $1300 the company is making $1000 profit for doing an hours worth of work. The annual renewal they are making $250 profit for doing 30 minutes worth of work. If you are in the pest business, you need these kind of profits, especially right now with everything going on.

Can the Hex Pro cartridges fit in a Sentricon station?

How often should the Sentricon "traps" be inspected? I have a new house on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi with only 10' between houses. All my neighbors have had extensive damage from Formosan Termites. I opted to have both the Termidor and the Sentricon System installed. Within 6 months, all of the bait from one of the Sentricon traps had been eaten! So, how often should the pest control company inspect the traps?

Typically Sentricon "Always Active" stations are inspected at least 1 time per year. In some cases 2 times per year - as is the case with Formosan Termites. Hex Pro Termite Bait stations should be inspected at least 2 times per year, and preferably, every 90 days. The systems are a little different although essentially the same product.

I install and maintain Sentricon systems, I can tell you they are a lot of maintenance, every 3 months they need to be cleaned around , mulch needs sifted through and in the spring and summer months you will need to open them and inspect the bait to determine if it has a hur with termites or if it's inactive a lot of the time you will find ants nesting, roots growing into the system, slugs love them, and they can start molding pretty quick I've seen this.. most people who do it their self have an idea that you just install these and forget about them you will constantly be doing maintenance.
I actually think the old fashion way is more effective with some good old termidor.
