I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it almost certainly sounds like Drywood Termite "Frass" or pellets.
Here is how to tell - get a sample of the pellets and look at them under a magnifying glass. Drywood termite frass look like tiny footballs with concave sides. If the sides are not concaved, then it could be powder post beetles or something else. You can always send me a sample of the frass, a nice big baggy of it would be great, and I can tell you what it is.
