There really is no best product, because honestly, they all work to some degree. The best WAY to get rid of fruit flies is to first determine if they really are a fruit fly, or just a gnat. Gnats do not respond to fruit fly traps, and the control is somewhat different.
For real honest to goodness fruitflies, first remove the fruit, garbage or whatever else attracts them first and spray the area with any disinfect product to kill the odors and bacteria. Next, you can use fruit fly traps to capture the adults. You can also use CB80 to kill the adults. CB80 is probably one of the best overall products for both fruit flies and gnats, as you can apply it as needed. Basically, it is a handheld fogger that can be used as needed around trashcans, in kitchens, etc. Just press the button for about 3 seconds and fog the area. It contains natural pyrethrins that kills most insects on contact. It does not leave a residual either.
For long term fruit fly control, sanitation, cleanliness and constant diligence using disinfectants, and occasional fogging with CB 80 or using Fruit Fly traps is about all you can do.
For commercial facilities, there are electronic fruit fly traps that can be permanently mounted, they also require electricity and regular maintenance.
