Timbor is not the best product to use for wood that is going to be stained or painted. The reason is that it is basically a powder that is mixed with water and then applied to wood. When the water dries, it leaves a powdery residue. It is difficult to remove all of the powder in order to paint or stain. Timbor is best used on wood that is rough, weathered or in hidden areas such as attics, crawl spaces, etc.
Bora Care is the product of choice on wood that is going to be stained or painted. It contains glycol that helps to dilute the Sodium Borate and also helps to penetrate the wood. After application take a wet sponge and wipe off the wood if there are any sticky spots, and then sand smooth and paint. Bora Care needs to dry at least 72 hours before the wood is painted or stained.
