Typically this time of year, we get a lot of calls on this type of incident. Unfortunately, we have to be able to see the insect in order to indentify it. My opinion on 99% of cases like this is that the skin issue it either irritation, allergy, dermititis, or some other skin condition.
I can't tell you what the problem is if you can't find an insect. 99% of all insects are visible with the human eye.
There is a chance, that it could be chiggers. This is the immature stage of a mite. They are found outdoors in fields. Seldom indoors.
