Any time you apply a herbicide expect some effect on the overall lawn. Browning is an indication of either burning or plant decline. It doesn't mean that the lawn is dying, it only means that the lawn has been effected some. Unless you have applied a preemergent last fall and winter, and then fertilized, you are dealing with a normal growing lawn or possibly a bunch of dead weeds.
I don't think you have done anything wrong, it's just that you are comparing your lawn with herbicide applied to other lawns that are either full of green weeds, or have had fertilizer applied. Give it some time and the lawn should come back when the temperatures increase. If you don't agree, send me pics and I will try to diagnose it for you.
