Here is the problem - ALL ants originate outdoors. They move indoors for food sources. Sometimes they decide to stay and live in the house, other times they continue to live outdoors and only go indoors in search of food.
Most of the time, there is not adequate food indoors, so even though you see them indoors, they are also going outdoors to continue to feed. Ants feed on aphids, mealybugs, insects, plant juices. They will not eat syrup, food scraps, crumbs, etc, for any length of time. This is not their staple food source. It's always outdoor plant related - always.
Why you are seeing so many ants? Who knows. The ants are very social insects. The scout ants will leave a pheromone trail to potential food sources, this attracts worker ants. Not all food sources are acceptable to the ants, so even though you see a large trail, it only means that a lot of ants are following the pheromone trail left by the scouts.
To see this indoors can be alarming. It usually doesn't last long. Cleaning will sometimes disrupt the pheromone trails and the ants will get lost. This could be happening too. Not sure.
The reason that we recommend 4 KM Ant Pro dispensers for the average house, is so you can put 1 on each side. For larger homes, we recommend 2 for each side. This gives the ants an alternative natural food source that they prefer in most cases. It also kills them slowly (outdoors where they naturally feed) over a period of time resulting in death to the colony.
Placing 2 KM Ant Pro dispensers out to see if they will work is like taking a couple of vitamins and seeing if they work. Unless you follow the directions, getting the results you expect is a long shot. Making a determination that something doesn't work when you don't use enough or use less than what is recommended usually results in less than satisfactory results. Then you think the product doesn't work, because you didn't use enough, etc.
My advice is give the KM Ant Pro system time to work, follow the recommendations as far as number of dispensers, bait replacement, etc. The KM Ant Pro system is the #1 liquid ant bait system on the market. It's #1 because it's Patented and it works.
Hope this helps.
