Are you certain the tree died of insect infestation? It is rare for carpenter to kill a tree because they do not eat live wood. They will bore into the wood that is dead or decayed to nest, but they will not excavate live wood, nor do they eat wood at all.
Bark beetles, normally will not kill a kill a tree, however it is possible. Most of the time they will readily invade a diseased tree or a weakened tree. I would not think that this is the issue unless there are many trees in the area that have fallen victim, this would almost be epidemic.
Burning the wood is the best way to destroy them. Spraying anything on a dead tree to destroy the insects might not control them. The tree has to be actively living and absorb the chemical into the cells of the wood to kill the insects. Dead trees don't have living cells so they won't absorb any systemic insecticide.
