In large enough quantities, it could be harmful. Just like table salt, dishwashing soap, bleach, etc. Most people don't think of it this way, but its the truth.
I would not recommend to apply it anywhere your animals or pets might try to eat it. Keep it away from them just for safety purposes.
A better alternative around pets would be the KM Ant Pro system. Hope this helps.
