There are a lot of insects that will eat natural wool. Silverfish, carpet beetles, clothes moths, and some species of beetles will eat away. I can't tell you exactly what is doing the damage for obvious reasons, but silverfish may be the culprit. Ultracide and a treatment regimen over several months will help to control this infestation.
