The only thing that will kill all life cycles of the powder post beetle is fumigation. Totality is bifenthrin a synthetic pesticide. It will kill the larvae and the adult stages. It will not kill the eggs or the pupae.
When the pupae "hatch" or pupate, then the adult beetle emerges and begins chewing its way through the wood to get to the surface and "exit" the wood. The adult beetle will be exposed to the bifenthrin in this process, but the kill may not be "instant".
Totality penetrates the wood much quicker and will kill the larvae on contact. With BoraCare, the larvae have to actually eat and consume the BoraCare and then it kills them. Totality is just much faster at penetration and kill of the larvae, BoraCare is much longer lasting all around.
Hope this helps.
