Hi,

I was wondering what the likely hood of a cockroach infestation would be based on the following experience. I came home one night last week and discovered an oriental cockroach on top of a book shelf. I promptly sprayed and killed it. So is it possible for me to just have one cockroach in my apartment rather than an infestation? Here is why I ask, I thoroughly cleaned my apartment and looked for evidence for an infestitation. I found no cockroach xxxx or other cockroaches. Also, the school I work at has a problem with oriental cockroaches. Not too mention the roach was not found in my kitchen. Based on this information, should I be concerned with there being more than one cockroach? I know the old saying "that where there is one, there are more", but I have found no evidence else where. I moved my refridgerator and stove and looked under there. I checked and cleared out my recycling bins and there was nothing. I have since sprayed with ortho home defense and layed out some gel baits. Still no signs of dead oriental cockroaches. Is it possible that the roach was just a hitchhiker in one of the bags I brought home from work?

Its very possible. If it was an adult Oriental then it could just be looking for food. If it was an immature, then it could have siblings close by.....

I would suggest using some traps and seeing if you can capture more. The 288I Catchmaster works well. Just place them under furniture and in the corners of rooms / closets and see what you capture. If you don't capture anything, then its safe to assume there are few if any others. If you capture more, then you know there is a potential problem looming.....
