There is not anything on the market that can be applied through a steam cleaning machine. Boric acid probably won't do anything to control them either. It will only effect the larvae, it won't kill the adults.
The best product to use is Ultracide. Apply it to the carpets or rugs every 60 -90 days if you find them infesting these areas.
Carpet beetles are a variety of what is known as a Dermistid beetle. They live outdoors on plants and also feed on natural fibers. Just because you see them indoors doesn't mean that you have an infestation indoors. They could be coming from outdoors (which they do 99% of the time), and then dying.
