Are you absolutely certain that they are powder post termites and not powder post beetles? To answer you question, no, it's not the best product for use in cabinets, it's designed for walls, studs, etc. The best product for cabinets would be Termidor SC or Termidor foam injected into the galleries. This won't work if it's powder post beetles.

If you are absolutely certain they are drywood termites, you could use Termidor Foam and inject it into the termite galleries. The bigger question is, are they termites or powder post beetles? What evidence are you seeing?

I have the same problem with powderpost termites in kitchen cabinets. I am certain that’s what they are because I took one to the UF entomology dept. I have started the drill and foam process but want to be certain I’m doing it correctly. About every 7 inches I drill 1/4” hole, fill and plug. I wondered if I might be able to superheat my kitchen through a bedbug company? I read that option somewhere and this process that I’m doing is so time consuming and may not work, so I’m told. Or what about the possibility of “bombing” each cabinet with some kind of poison?

It sounds like Powder Post Beetles and not Powder Post Termites. They are completely different. Powder Post Termites require a large amount of moisture and are not normally found in dry kitchen cabinets. Powder Post Beetles are very common in hardwoods such as oak, ash, etc. found in kitchen cabinets.

The treatment for both insects differs. Drilling and foaming for Powder Post Termites in a kitchen cabinet will not stop the infestation. They have to be stopped at the soil level. So if they are coming in around a plumbing line or a crack, then that is the area that has to be treated. Powder Post beetles can only be treated with a direct wood treatment using Bora Care or Totality. Bombing the cabinets, using foggers, and heat remediation will not work. The larvae within the wood have to be killed. Removing the cabinets and having them professionally fumigated, or having the entire home fumigated may be an option.

Hi Ron! We have termites in our cabinets. So it is ok to use Termidor on kitchen and bathroom cabinets? I thought I read somewhere where those uses were off-label. I'm having difficulty finding a safe way to treat our cabinets. Thanks, Kelly
