Walnut and Catalpa caterpillars are very common in your area and will damage to trees and vegetation. Demon WP is not labeled to be used on Trees. A better product would be Dominion 2L. It is a systemic insecticide that can be sprayed on the tree and when the caterpillars ingest the leaves, they then die. The question is, will this stop them from destroying the tree? There is no magic cure and nothing I have heard of that can help to kill them before damage occurs. The best plan may be to begin a treatment before they begin hatching and then apply the insecticide every few weeks to see if control can occur.
You can't use Dominion 2L on fruit bearing trees. There is nothing labeled for use on fruit or nut bearing trees such as Pecan trees. Permethrin or TenGard SFR can be applied, but it is not systemic, it only kills on contact. Also, it cannot be applied within 60 days of fruit or nut harvest.
