How to know if I have bed bugs?

2 weeks ago I stayed in a hotel and got bit by bed bugs. The night I came home and found the bites I threw away my luggage, washed and dried everything that had touched it, sprayed my bed and carpet down with rubbing alcohol and then vacuumed. I have completed that 2 times and repeatedly inspect my mattress. Last night(2 weeks after the trip) I found a dead bed bug on my bedroom floor. Inspected my mattress again and haven’t found any signs of more bugs. How likely is it that there are more and I’m just missing any signs? What should my next step be?

Its possible that a few bed bugs hitched a ride home in your luggage or carry items. At this point, if you have found bed bugs dead or alive, it is very important to stay diligent and continually inspect. A full treatment may not be necessary, but at the least a nightly inspection of the mattress edges, bed frame, headboard etc is necessary. Finding a dead bed bug may be a sign of a potential infestation or it could be the sign of a single dead bed bug. Breeding at this point is possible if there is more than 2-3, so staying diligent will help prevent a full blown infestation.
