For general pest control practices and to keep pests such as cockroaches, spiders, centipedes, millipedes, crickets, etc out of house, this is what I recommend -
1) Treat the outdoor perimeter area (1 foot up and 1 foot out) from the foundation with Demon WP or Pestabs. These products are mixed with water and sprayed from a handheld type sprayer. Liberally spray the entire outer perimeter area with 1-2 gallons of mix. Be sure to spray inside of cracks, crevices, weepholes, etc as well as saturated the ground area when spraying. Walk backwards as you apply these products and be sure to stay upwind. Let the sprays drift away from you and walk backwards as you apply it.
2) Treat the garage, storage sheds, outside porch areas, etc, with the same solution of Demon Wp or Pestabs. Be sure to spray behind things such as appliances, under workbenches, etc. Basically treat the entire perimeter area, don't spray in areas directly in front of doors such as thresholds where you can walk into and track these sprays indoors.
3) Treat indoors behind and under furniture, appliances, and inside of walls around plumbing fixtures. Use high pressure and give short quick bursts of the spray in these areas. Do not over apply and do not make puddles. A light mist is all that is necessary. For plumbing fixtures, pull the rings back around the plumbing lines under the sinks and spray inside the walls if possible. You can also treat the corners of the cabinets under sinks. Do not spray inside cabinets containing food or utensils unless you remove all of this first.
4) Use ePest IPM Bug Traps and place under furniture, beds, inside closets, under sinks etc. to help capture and monitor pests.
5) Normally I recommend to use Niban Bait granule insecticide around the outer perimeter after spraying to give the treatment added longevity. This is a boric acid based bait granule. With pets, don't apply granules on bare soil, only on grassy areas or where pets can't get to them. Niban can also be applied in attics, under homes in sub-areas, and even scattered in storage closets, etc. Use sparingly, a little goes a long way.
There are a lot of other products that can be used for different kinds of pests. This particular treatment strategy is used by almost all pest control companies for general pest control treatments.
FYI - most pest companies charge about $150 or so for the "initial" treatment and then a quarterly treatment is around $80. It depends on the company. These prices are for the big National companies, and this is all that they do. Do it yourself and Save with ePestSupply!
