How large a rat will this trap kill?

I'm trying to eradicate wood rats up to 16" long (head to long tail) without using toxic pesticides

As long as the rat gets its head into the trap and the trap is secured, it will trap a rat 16" long with tail. Any larger and you would need to either use an old fashioned spring style trap with a metal closure or a live trap. Glue boards can also be effective. Here are some links:
