Varied carpet beetle - possibly in sofa?
We previously lived in an old duplex with continuous carpet beetle sightings (adult and larvae). I did my best to keep the infestation down but I suspect that the source of the infestation may have been in the crawl space or attic since it was an old home. We just moved across the country into a brand new home. I washed every single piece of clothing and fabric we owned and sealed it in vacuum bags before bringing it into our new home. I threw out all old dog beds and all rugs. All mattresses have bug proof zippered enclosures. I tried to be 100% sure I wouldn’t bring a single beetle or egg. The ONLY furniture items we brought that I couldn’t treat are a leather sofa and a wooden dresser. I never saw any actual beetles or larvae on the sofa. I occasionally found a larva within the wooden dresser (on clothing.)
We moved into our new house 3 weeks ago and I just found 2 adult varied carpet beetles. I am 100% sure that’s what they are. They were near the window sills in the dining room which is a few feet from the sofa. Is it possible that I brought them within the sofa or that there were eggs/larvae in the sofa?
