Gourmet Liquid Ant Bait works best for carpenter ants full strength (1%). The recommendation on the label to dilute with distilled water 1:1 to make a .05% dilution is for smaller ant species such as Argentine, white footed, etc, although this is not made very clear on the label.
There really is no difference in toxicity to the ants at a 1% or .05% dilution, it kills them the same either way, the difference is in that some ants are repelled by higher concentrations of boric acid.
If you find the ants are not attracted to it after at least 60 days, then you could try diluting it with distilled water. This is usually not a problem, and full strength works fine in the majority of cases. Thanks.
