Chiggers are the immature stage of mites, such as the straw itch mite.
Any pesticide that is also a "miticide" such as Bifenthrin (Talstar or Bifen) does a good job. Also Mavrik Aquaflow is excellent.
Be sure to spray the entire area until wet. You may have to treat 2-3 times at intervales of 2-3 weeks to get complete control. Basically, just keep spraying until they don't bite you anymore.
I always recommend using a good backpack sprayer such as the Chapin Backpack Sprayer. This sprayer is terrific at spraying large areas fast, will last many years if properly cleaned (flushed) after each use.
