The best way to get rid of carpenter bees is to use an aerosol such D-Force and inject it into the holes. This kills the larvae and any adult bees that are inside. You then immediately seal the hole with wood putty.
Spray products such as Onslaught Fastcap or Demand CS can then be sprayed onto the surface of the wood to kill and repel other bees. This entire process needs to be performed every few weeks during the spring and summer until the bees are gone.
In some cases, continual spraying of the wood surface is necessary to keep them away. It may be an ongoing process.
If the bees are really busy and you can't get to the holes to inject them, then spray first to kill the adult bees, use Wasp and Hornet Killer if necessary to kill them or do whatever you need to do to knock them down. Then inject the holes.
Hope this helps.
