Subterranean termite treatment requires that products such as Termidor are placed into the soil at ANY potential point of entry. This is usually, at a minimum, the outer perimeter foundation wall. IF termites are active under the structure, then you also need to at least spot treat treat these areas where the activity exists. This could be treating a single pier, a single set of plumbing lines, or treating everything under the house.
You could also use Termidor foam and inject directly into wall voids where termites are active.
When trenching, use a pick axe. This has a "spade" on 1 side that is about 3 inches wide. Using the spade, dig a trench 2-3 inches deep and only as wide as the spade. Use this technique for all trenches. When applying Termidor, apply at a rate of 4 gallons per 10 linear feet. Measure out 10 feet of your newly dug trench, and then pour 4 gallons of Termidor mix into it. Mix the Termidor in a 5 gallon bucket for outdoor application, and for treatment under the house, use a small pail.
Termidor mixes at .8 oz per gallon of water, for an average size house (200 outside linear feet), you will need 80 gallons of mix. I would recommend to get at least 4 20 oz containers or 1 78 oz container of Termidor.
We have a page here that explains in more detail how to do a chemical soil treatment.
Let me know if you have more questions. Treating a pier and beam home can be a little daunting, but really is very easy.
