Worker ants are not specifically attracted by anything other than what are called "trail pheromones". These pheromones are basically a set of instructions given out by the "scout ants" as to where to feed. Since workers can only feed on liquids and cannot eat solid foods, they will consume some liquid but also fill their gut with liquid and return to the colony where it is given to the immature ants. The immature ants are basically larvae. They have no legs, eyes, arms, etc. They are similar to a fly maggot. The immatures then digest this material or food and regurgitate a liquid that is fed to the workers and the queens, brood, etc. If the immature ants die during this process, then the colony is "alarmed" that there is poison in the food source. It is a very sophisticated system. Its not as simple as just placing "broth" into the liquid mix.
First of all, ants don't feed on meat sources. They feed on plant juices, some insects, honeydew, mealybugs, etc. They are basically vegetarian. They are not carnavores. We or anyone at ePestSupply that I am aware of has never recommended using any kind of broth in the liquid ant bait. We sometimes recommend to dilute the bait, and have also recommended (very rarely) to use Mountain Dew in very small doses to help entice the scouts.
The main thing to remember with the KM Ant Pro dispensers is that they only "dispense" liquid bait. The GreenWay Liquid Ant Bait is the most effective bait that has worked for most species of ants and the bait that is recommended by KM Ant Pro. These products are not 1 in the same. They are different products made by different companies.
The other important thing to remember is that ants don't always feed when you are standing there watching or sneaking up on them. They tend to randomly feed until their food source in the case (liquid bait) becomes their primary food source. In some cases they "test" the bait to make sure its not poison before they begin feeding. But in almost all cases, you will not see ants swarming the dispensers. What you will see is a reduction in ants over time. Sometimes, weeks, sometimes months. This is a long term feeding baiting stategy and will work. It takes time to see results. Instead of expecting ants to feed, expect to see fewer ants over time.
If after at least 60/90 days you haven't seen any reduction in ants or their activity, it may be time to start using another strategy. Using broth is not part of this strategy. If this is the case, I can help you or I can have Ken the manufacturer of KM Ant Pro help you. Let me know how it goes.
