If you are dealing with midges outdoors, the best advice is to either keep all lights off or use bug lights. Sprays will do very little to effect them. It will kill the ones exposed, but do nothing for the millions of others that will continually swarm in. Lights attract them at night. So the best advice is to use light that doesn't attract them, or place the lights away from your area to pull the midges away.
