Hi Wade, the first problem is the size of the yard. In order to control weeds they have to be choked out by a grass. Otherwise the ground is bare if there is no weed or some sort of non-weed ground cover. Using a pre-emergent spray such as Dimension is probably the easiest to apply and overall the cheapest, but it's still gonna be expensive on 2 acres. Plus it has to be timed perfectly. I'm not certain about the "window" of application in your area, you might want to talk with a local lawn care expert or an extension entomologist, possibly from LSU to find out more about the timing of pre-emergent herbicides. They may also give you some better information on which pre-emergents work best in your area.
Killing the growing weeds you mention is going to be a project. Most of the products that are for grasses (not basic annual weeds) are super expensive and do not actually kill the weed. They "suppress" the weed until the grasses can grow and "choke" them out. Products like MSMA and others that were super effective on crabgrass and others are no longer for residential use. Commercial and limited use only in most states. The best and cheapest way to control these weeds is probably with Roundup.
There are not any exact answers on weed control and it can be a very expensive and frustrating process that involves much more than just applying herbicides. If you want a golf course look, the best way is to kill everything with Roundup, till it all up and then seed and start new. If that is not an option and you don't want to kill everything, I would suggest calling a local expert who can give you an opinion on what to do. I don't have any simple answers. Hope this helps.
