I also have a problem with voles getting into our house, we frequently find them in the basement.

We have moles that get in our basement frequently. 5 in 2 monthes. we have a walkout basement. We replaced siding a few years ago and I am wondering if they get in that way somehow. We leave sticky traps and catch them, They are about for inches long and blackis with a long snout. They have a distinctive smell I now cant get rid of in our basement. One died in the wall. I have no idea how they are getting in. Help!

Meadow mice, voles, etc can enter a structure just like any mouse or small creature. They can enter through a hole the size of a dime or less. Look for cracks and openings around doors, windows, vents, utility lines, etc. There is a reason they are getting in and you haven't found it.

Thank you, I will try the bait stations, but I was mistaken my creepy lil critters are shrews. would the bait stations be different for them? Thank you for your help!
Shrews eat a variety of things like insects, seeds, nuts, and supposedly really like fish. Getting them to feed on a rodent bait might take some work, but overall it will be the easiest way to control them. Traps and glue boards also will capture them indoors. But just like voles and mice, keeping them out is the best way to control them indoors. You just have to make sure that you have sealed and plugged every single little hole, crack, etc where they might be able to squeeze through.
