Carpenter ants don't hibernate. They aren't as active in the winter, but on warm days they will forage for food. If you live in an area where it be freezing for much of the winter, it may be best to gather the dispensers and store them indoors. Placing them indoors and thinking the ants will feed will not work. In almost all cases, Carpenter ants do not feed indoors. When the outside temps are warm again, bring out the dispensers, replace the bait with new fresh bait and place them in areas where you think they might feed.
