Scorpions can hide anywhere. More than likely they have gotten into the attic, outer walls, etc. Scorpions eat insects and anywhere insects are, you are likely to find scorpions. As far as scorpions being in the carpets, they are not very good at squeezing into tight places, like a cockroach would, so I don't think they would be hiding under carpets, but if there is a crack under a baseboard, etc, then they could hide in the cracks.
The best thing to do to control Scorpions, is to treat the indoor areas with a microencapsulated insecticide such as Demand CS or with a wettable powder insecticide such as Demon WP. Spray along baseboards, under and behind furniture, etc. Also use ePest IPM Bug Traps placed under furniture, in closets, etc. to trap them.
Outdoors, use either Demand CS, Demon WP, or Bifen and perform a complete exterior band spray around the perimeter of the home. Be sure to spray under logs, rocks, and anywhere scorpions can hide.
A good 1-2 punch outdoors is to follow up the exterior spray with an application of granules such as Talstar Granules. Simply sprinkle Talstar Granules around the foundation and make a complete perimeter band 3-5 feet wide directly next to the house.
It also helps to seal up any cracks, crevices, and other places where scorpions can enter the home from the outside. Stuffit Copper wool works great, is easy to apply and won't rust like steel wool will.
Perform this treat every 60 -90 days and you will get ahead of the scorpion "curve". Check the ePest traps regularly and dispose of them when they get full.
Hope this helps.
