The best thing to do is to treat all cracks, crevices, joints, etc with Termidor Foam. Try to get this product into the voids where the Ants are living. This will help to control the existing indoor colony. Then use Ant Pro dispensers outdoors to control ants on property and help keep them from returning to the house. This system also helps to intercept ants that will invade from outside off-property colonies.

If you were in Texas, this is how we would treat these ants. The cost for a professional to do this and install the KM Ant Pro system would be around $600. You can do it yourself and save the labor and service charges.

You are correct. However, treating carpenter ants nest directly will result in an immediate kill of the nest. Placing bait stations outdoors will take much longer as the ants already have a food source and must deplete those sources before they transition to a new food source. If the ants are there and active, they are feeding on something. Placing a bait station near their nest will only place them into a distressed state. This could cause them to exit the area and possibly "bud" and multiply their nests. This is a survival strategy.
Using Ant Pro outdoors is the only recommended baiting strategy. It is a longer term solution, but very effective. If you are willing to give it some time and forego the use of any pesticides, it will work.
