The only way to know what species of mite, is to have one examined by an ACARIST at a University that deals with with mites (Acarids). However, if you are concerned that mites are the issue, treatment to the yard can be done with any pesticide that is designed for mites. Bifen I/T, Bifen XTS, and Talstar Pro are examples of pesticides that do a decent job of controlling mites. This treatment will have to be performed on a regular basis (14-21 days) until all signs of the mites cease. This is because the treatments have to outlast the life cycle of the mites. If it is mites, the immature stages of the mites are probably causing the itching issue.

Most pest companies will not deal with mites as they have little to no experience with them. Finding one that will treat or spray may be difficult. They certainly won't and can't guarantee any results. Doing this yourself may be your only option.
