Mosquito control is a daily thing. The issue is that you can kill every mosquito in your yard, and minutes later they fly in from outside areas, landing on you and biting you. We call this a "line of sight bite." It's like a laser coming in from next door or down the street, and you can't stop it. The easy thing to do is backpack spray the lawn whenever the mosquitoes are a problem. There is no "best product" for mosquitoes, although I prefer Onslaught Fastcap with a surfactant like Scrimmage for backpack spraying, and either Sector or Aqua Kontrol 30/30 for automatic misting systems.
Unless you have mosquito breeding in your yard (unlikely unless you have a standing stagnant pool of water), using an IGR is worthless. You will be much better off spending the money on a quality product such as Onslaught FastCap and not wasting it on anything else.
Backpack spraying regularly is, at best - 60-70% effective. A regular basis is not one time a month, it's more like 1-3 times per week, depending on the area you live in. If the mosquito population is large and you can't get control with backpack spraying or you don't want to spray every other day, then I recommend installing an automatic misting system. We sell and install the MistAway Mosquito Misting System. You can install it yourself if you're up to it.
An automatic system dispenses a mosquito-killing mist 2-3 times each day. It's essentially the same type of chemical that you would backpack spray. The difference is that instead of spraying a few times each month, it sprays a few times each day. It makes all the difference in the world.
There are no easy solutions for controlling mosquitoes. Only automatic solutions to make things simpler. Let me know if you are interested in an automatic system. I can be reached at 214-341-4106. Ron Dawson
