Subterranean termites will drop / build mud shelter tubes from horizontal surfaces. If this has been going on for a couple of years, there is 2 years worth of damage unseen. It takes termites several years to cause major damage. If it gets to this point, major reconstruction will have to take place. The termites are letting you know they are there.
