Need to control carpenter ants in tree.

I live in Michigan on a inland lake with many trees. I recently had my home treated for carpenter ants who had a colony in my atic. On top of that I have carpenter ants all over my yard and especially in one large tree where there is just mounds of saw dust all around the base. I am really affraid that they are killing my tree or at best making it weak. I want to treat this tree and get rid of the ants but the person who treated my home said there is nothing that can be done. I find that hard to believe. Do you have any suggestions and what product I can use to treat this problem?

I am amaized at the amount of saw dust created by these ants and there's got to be thousands of them. The ants in my attic seem to be gone but I still feel they are in my house. The pest control guy did spray around the house as well a couple of times. This was done in June of this year. I do not see ants in the home but really did not most of the time while the colony was being built which they tell me can take up to 5 years to mature.

Let me know what suggestions you have and the product best to treat the tree(s) and around my home.

Edward, the best single product to use is the KM Ant Pro System. Given time, this system will replace the ants natural food sources which are aphids, insects, plant juices, etc. The Ant Pro dispensers are placed next to the tree and around it.

The benefit of using this baiting system is that it will take care of ants that are indoors, and also ants that are outdoors. The ants that are indoors must go outdoors for food. They do not eat wood. They only excavate the wood to nest in it.

Outdoors, the Ant Pro System will kill ants that are foraging for food sources. It will also intercept invading ants from other far away nests or colonies.

If you want to spray the tree, use Merit 75. This product will not hurt the tree, is non-repellent and will kill the existing ants. It will not provide much protection against invading ants.

After all there is hope for carpenter ants in trees.
