Typically, the amount of KM Ant Pro Stations for an acre is 8 - 12. There is no exact amount of stations, no mathematical calculation. You basically have to give the ants what they are looking for. Food. Argentine ants can trail from hundreds of yards to get to their food source.
Boric acid in itself is not something they eat. This is what kills them. If it is overmixed, then it becomes repellent. It is also not water soluble. Table sugar, or just simple sugar mixed in water with plain old boric acid will not work to kill these ants.
The liquid ant baits that are formulated to kill argentine and other hard to control, aggressive, invasive ants, go through rigorous trials and study. Slapping a batch together on the kitchen stove might sound practical, but you are much better off time wise and money wise to use something proven to work.
Also, the KM Ant Pro Liquid Ant Bait dispenser has undergone extensive testing and research and is the only dispenser of its kind on the market (Patented). Simply placing a bowl of sugar water with boric acid in it might seem plausible, but the facts are it simply won't work. The KM Ant Pro dispenser gives continuous delivery of the bait to the ants over weeks and months. You don't have to worry about it, check it, etc.
Just set it and forget it.
