The label specifies a trench 6" deep and 6" wide directly next to the foundation wall.
I can tell you however, that most pest control companies do not dig it this deep.
The easy way to do this, is to use a "pick axe". A pick has a "spade" on 1 side, and this spade can be "dragged" along the foundation to make a nice 3" wide and 3" deep trench. This is more than sufficient for a trench in most cases. Be sure to replace the soil in the trench to get it wet with chemical and then smooth it out with a rake.
