What you use to spray for insects depends on which State you live in. New York, California, South Carolina, Connecticut, Delaware and other states have fairly strict laws on which pesticides can be purchased and used by homeowners.
The products that I recommend for outdoor use are -
Exterior Perimeter - Bifen I/T - mixed at 1 oz per gallon of water. 1 gallon of solution will treat 1,000 square feet. Spray all around the foundation, windows, doors, eaves to create an outside barrier to keep bugs out.
Lawn - to kill mosquitoes, ants, cockroaches, etc. Bifen is widely used by pest control companies. Use 1 oz per gallon of water and spray the entire yard. 1 gallon per 1,000 square feet. This may take several gallons of spray mix.
Indoors - Bifen I/T is again a good choice since it is virtually odorless. Mix at 1/2 oz per gallon of water and spray "lightly" like hairspray along baseboards behind furniture, curtains, storerooms, garage, etc. Do not spray all baseboards, only those hidden behind furniture, corners of rooms, behind curtains, etc.
Indoors - Place glue traps such as the Catchmaster behind furniture, in storage closets, the garage and other areas to capture insects. This lets you know what is going on with insects and they operate like a monitoring device. Use several glue boards and change them every few months.
This type of treatment is widely used by pest control companies and will control general crawling pests. It will not control infestations of insects such as German Cockroaches, fleas, carpet beetles, silverfish, termites, etc. Those insects require specialized treatments. We have info on how to control all of them on on our website.
Hope this helps.
