How do you know it is a mole? Have you seen this critter? Moles travel and live inside tunnels that they bore into the ground. They eat earthworms, grubs, and other soil borne insects. There is no food source inside the walls or ceiling that could sustain them.
It is possible that the mole is trying to get away from the cold elements outdoors, but the tunnels in the soil can also provide protection. Moles are not designed to be able to climb walls or ceilings as their legs and paws are different than a rat or mouse.
So again, my question, how do you know this is a mole, and are you positive it is not a mouse, rat, squirrel, etc?

I have never heard of a mole going into someone's house. This is new to me. The only way to keep any rodent out of your house is to make sure there are not any openings or holes in which they can crawl through. This is basic rodent control. Once you "exclude" them from getting inside, then getting rid or reducing the outdoor population is next.
If it is a mole and crawling up the steps, then you need to start trapping them or killing them outside.

It sounds like a vole to me. Voles are actually mice that look like a mole. If you have a picture you can post that would help identify it.

My cat has a cat door to go outside at will. She catches moles, voles and mice and brings them inside to play with. That is how they get inside. Also cats are very sneaky, they will hide them in their mouth and when you let them in they release them.I throw away cat food in her dish and take out the garbage, we set a mouse trap with cheese and BAM dead mole in the morning. Works everytime.

We just caught one in a mouse trap in our house as well. Definitely a MOLE!! I hear that you can use Eucalyptus oil, mint oil, castor oil, or coffee grounds to keep them out. Wish I could post a picture, but it was absolutely a MOLE. Not a rat. And he was after peanut butter in a trap that we set because we though it was a mouse we were hearing. Gonna break out me essential oils!

This summer and until now a mole house lived in our home .. a first for us but we noticed no mice in our home . Was wondering if the mole has kept mice away.

Moles eat worms and grubs for food. They don't eat mice. They also live underground. Mice and moles can be in the same area, just eating different things.
