No. Borates do NOT have have a transfer effect. The only termite that will die after ingesting any borate is the one that eats it. Thats it. Borates will not affect kings, queens, soldiers or reproductives either. Only worker termites that actually ingest it.
Borates do a very good job of preventing termite, insect and fungus infestations on wood, and depending on the level of activity and various factors, can control existing infestations.
I would not recommend borates for use as a "single" means of control for termites. Used in combination with other methods, and specifically for "preventive" measures, they are excellent and provide long term residual effectiveness for the life of the treated wood.
