Tengard will kill grubs, but is not the best product. What I recommend is a systemic insecticide such as Dominion, Merit or Premise. These products are more specific to grub control and will kill grubs when they eat the roots of the grass. Tengard only kills grubs that it contacts directly.
A hose end sprayer is not recommended to apply these products for grubs either. While a hose end sprayer is great for some fertilizers, it will dilute the insecticide to the point of it being ineffective. The only way to mix pesticides with any precision is to mix them in a tank sprayer and apply them with a tank sprayer.
Depending on where you live, the "window" of time to apply ANYTHING for grubs is generally 3-4 weeks. Which is usually June - August. To get the exact window, we need to know where you live. You can also contact a local extension office or major university (agricultural or entomology dept) to find out.
Hope this helps.
