I have never found settings on fertilizer spreaders to work exactly like you expect them to.
There really is no EXACT setting, since you can apply this product at a low rate of 2.0 lbs per 1,000 square feet or 3.0 lbs per 1,000 square feet. It also depends on the distance between your passes. When you apply this product, you walk in "S" turns and the distance between each pass is also calculated. Here is what to do. Determine how many square feet you have (length x width) of the lawn by walking or stepping it off. You don't need a measuring tape, just get an idea.
Then divide your bag into the amount you need (1 bag treats up to 5,000 square feet) and then apply that amount over the entire area evenly. That's it. Just adjust the setting to minimize the output until you get a feel for how much it will take.
