There is not an exact sequence that you should spray to get rid of springtails. The only thing you can do is to spray when you see them. This may mean spraying every week, every other week, etc. This will probably be an issue until the weather chills down. Springtails are very prominent in a lot of areas during the spring and summer season.
It is hard to apply too much chemical outdoors, since rain and weather break it down so quickly.
Most pesticides don't normally build up in the outdoor environment to the point where it would be too toxic to inhabit. So I wouldn't worry so much about your child. Just make sure that it is dry before he or she goes back onto the yard.
A couple of other products worth mentioning for Springtail control - Onslaught Fastcap or Mavrik Perimeter.
Other than this, a regular treatment strategy, and possibly rotating chemicals as mentioned above would certainly help.
