There is only a minimal hazard to animals with this trap. The ingredient is similar to vinegar, there is no active "poison". The trap basically attracts the flies, traps them and then they drown.
Just keep the traps in areas where the cats can't get to them or knock them around. They could possibly play them with and knock them off a counter and then the attractant would spill everywhere. That's the only real hazard.
