Normally, gnats are attracted to stagnant water, smells, etc. If the fridge is clean there should be no reason why the gnats are attracted to it. If the condensation pan under it is dirty, clogged, etc, then that could be the culprit.
There has to be a breeding source somewhere close by. Its not the fridge unless it is really dirty.

Gnats or most commonly fruit fly's will get into refrigerators. They are attracted to the smell of overripe fruits and vegetables. CB80 will kill them outside of the refrigerator, and the ones that are airborne but won't kill them if they have laid eggs in the fruits or veggies.
This is more of a sanitation issue than anything. The best thing to do is to completely clean out the fridge, get rid of any overripe or rotting fruits, and wipe down everything with a bleach solution. The trash containers should also be cleaned, washed and bleached and counter tops, floors, etc completely cleaned and sanitized. It this doesn't help YOUR issue, then you will have to find the source. Many times, neighboring units will be the issue. Outside trash dumpsters could also be the causal issue. Use diligence and find the source in this case. You may need to contact the Apt manager for help.

You have to get rid of the food odors. The best way to do that is with a soapy bleach solution. You can also use soap and vinegar. The entire fridge should be cleaned and dried out. There are no pesticides that will solve the problem with food in the fridge. Clean it and let it dry completely before putting food back in. This is the only way to solve the problem I can recommend.
