The problem with carpet beetles, is that they really don't feed on carpet - unless that carpet is wool. If the carpet is synthetic, you need to look elsewhere to solve the problem, such as closets, which could contain suits, socks, sweaters, etc, all made of wool. Also wool rugs or tapestries that have been in storage are great suspects.
Carpet Beetles for the most part are an outside pest that migrates indoors. In most cases, damage to wool items is minimal. Also Carpet Beetles in most cases are nothing more than a Dermistid Beetle that gets inside the house. They originate outdoors on plants, flowers, etc.
In almost all cases you HAVE to use a product with a growth regulator or IGR. The larvae do all of the damage, not the adult beetle, so controlling the eggs and larvae is of utmost importance.
To answer your question, Bifen IT is great for outdoor use on plants, lawns, etc, to kill these beetles. I am not a fan of it indoors, because it can leave water spots (all concentrates do) and it has an odor.
Ultracide Aerosol treats up to 2600 Sq Ft and contains an IGR. Demand CS is good, but you have to mix an IGR such as PreCor or Nyguard with it.
