CB 80 is an aerosol product that can be fogged into the air to kill flying insects and also injected into cracks and crevices. It is very effective at killing adult fruit flies. It is not capable of effecting eggs, larvae or pupae. For this reason, I can only tell you that in order to kill and eliminate fruit flies, all life stages have to be stopped.
CB80 can be part of an effective fruit fly control program, but will only kill the exposed adult flies. Kiling the other life stages requires the use of a growth regulator such as Gentrol Aerosol or Gentrol Point Source. The active ingredient which is Pyrethrins, is very toxic to fish. When fogging rooms with aquariums, it is recommended to unplug and turn off the pump and cover the aquarium with a towel. This prevents any airborne particles from entering the water. The rooms need to be aired out for a few hours before turning the aquariums back on.
Eliminating fruit flies can be frustrating. If you find the source and eliminate it, then use either CB 80, Gentrol or a good fly bait such as Alpine Pressurized Fly Bait, you can get rid of them. Traps are also effective, but only at capturing the adults. Traps do nothing for the other life stages.
What I have also found is that as long as there is a lingering odor of fruit, the fruit flies can still be attracted. They come from outdoors. Getting rid of the fruit is not the sure cure solution. Trace amounts of the fruit odors can be detected by outdoor fruit flies for weeks and months.
Hope this helps.
